Katja Newman, President

Katja Newman is founder and president of KSN Consulting, Inc. Ms. Newman specializes in helping companies in the agribusiness, energy, information technology, retail, and telecommunications sectors maximize business opportunities in Latin America and the Caribbean. Newman oversees market research, political/economic risk analysis, regulatory/government relations assistance, and strategic planning services to Fortune 100 companies, non-profit organizations, and leading business associations. Past clients include Kmart, Pan-American Energy, Polycom, and Grocery Manufacturers of America, the world's largest association of food, beverage, and consumer product companies.

Prior to founding KSN Consulting, Ms. Newman was manager of the Latin America Consulting Group at International Technology & Trade Associates, Inc. (ITTA) in Washington, DC. She helped ITTA's clients analyze business and trade opportunities in the Western Hemisphere by working closely with her extensive contacts in the region and at the U.S.T.R., U.S. Department of Commerce, international development agencies, foreign embassies, industry associations, and Congress.

Before joining ITTA, Ms. Newman directed business development programs, conferences, and technical assistance projects for several Fortune 500 member-companies of Caribbean/Latin American Action, a non-profit organization. Ms. Newman started her career at the International Republican Institute (IRI), where she managed grants from the U.S. Agency for International Development and the National Endowment for Democracy to conduct civic development and political party-building programs. She has served as an official delegate for IRI and for the Organization of American States to observe eleven elections in Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.

Ms. Newman has a master's degree in foreign policy and Latin America from George Washington University and a bachelor's degree in international studies from Pepperdine University. She is fluent in Spanish, German, and Danish. Ms. Newman is also a leading member of the Pacific Council on International Policy, Women in International Trade, the Inter-American Dialogue, and Americas Forum.
